Driving Distractions
May 03, 2016Driving requires your full attention at all times. There are so many different distractions that can make us lose concentration on the roads. So we have come up with some top tips so you always have your eyes on the road!
The first obvious one is using your phone while driving. This is a massive distraction as even taking your eyes off the roads for a few seconds to reply to a text can cause serious damage. You can read about the consequences of using your phone while driving on our previous blog post : Using Mobile Phones While Driving
Another distraction is eating and drinking while driving, even though this isn't illegal eating at the while could increase the risk of losing control and ending up in an accident. So our advice would be to park up somewhere safe and take a few minute to eat and drink instead of doing it while driving.
Smoking can increase the risk of a driver having a crash as they are distracted by lighting a cigarette and smoking it.
Listening to loud music can also slow down drivers reaction times. This can also prevent them from hearing what is going on around them, for example an ambulance siren. Adjusting the controls of a radio/ music can also be dangerous as your concentration isn't on the road.
Passengers in your car can also cause distraction, weather you are talking to them or you have children playing about in the car. if a passenger is distracting you dont be afraid to ask them to wait to talk to you until the drive is over.
Sat Nav's can also cause distractions, so when putting in a destination or changing the settings pull over when it is safe to do so.
