What to do if you put the wrong fuel in your car?

Realising that you have put the wrong fuel in your car can be a heart stopping moment for some. But don't panic, read on for our advice and we will tell you what you need to do if this does happen to you! 



Our first tip would be the obvious, make sure that you check which fuel you are about to put in your car, taking a few seconds to check can save you the hours of stress and damage it could do to your car! 

Don’t rely on the colour of the hose or nozzle. Check the label on the pump trigger and the fuel grade indicator on the pump

If you have put petrol in a diesel car, then you need to act quickly. Putting the wrong fuel into your vehicle can cause havoc to your journey and potentially cause extensive damage to your car engine.

If you put petrol in a diesel car, the most important thing to remember is not to try to start your car. Starting your engine will circulate the mixed fuel around your engine, which can cause more damage.

If you have started to drive and then realise that you have put the wrong fuel in your car then pull over as soon as you safely can and turn the engine off.

If you do start driving and then realise that you have used the wrong fuel in your car make sure that you pull over when safe to do so and turn the engine off. 

Make sure that you call for roadside assistance immediately. 

Once someone has got to you they will be able to drained and clean out the fuels and you'll be ready to go.
